Brucite powder, namely magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)₂), as an important inorganic filler, has attracted wide attention in the application of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) composite materials. The application of surface modification technology aims to improve the compatibility of brucite powder with EVA matrix, thereby improving the comprehensive performance of composite materials.

Surface modification of brucite powder

· Modification purpose: enhance compatibility with EVA matrix, improve dispersibility, and improve composite material performance.

· Modification method: surface treatment with stearic acid, silane coupling agent, titanate coupling agent, etc.

Selection and mechanism of modifier

· Stearic acid: improve the dispersibility of brucite powder.

· Silane coupling agent: such as SCA-1113, KH550, enhance the interfacial bonding with EVA matrix.

· Titanate coupling agent: such as JN114, improve interfacial action and enhance mechanical properties.

· Modification mechanism: A protective film is formed on the surface of brucite powder through chemical reaction or physical adsorption to improve wettability and dispersibility.

Effect on the performance of EVA composites

· Mechanical properties: The modified brucite powder significantly improves the tensile strength and elongation at break of the composite material.

· Flame retardant properties: Improve the oxygen index and enhance the flame retardant effect of the composite material.

· Rheological properties: Improve processing performance and facilitate the processing and molding of composite materials.

· Microstructure: The effect of surface modifiers on the microstructure of composite materials is analyzed by SEM observation.

Research case

· Silane/aluminate composite modification: Modification using SCA-1113, F-2 and their mixtures to improve mechanical and flame retardant properties.

· Effect of surface treatment agent: Modifiers such as stearic acid, KH550, and JN114 improve static and dynamic mechanical properties and dispersion behavior.

Appropriate surface modification can significantly improve the dispersibility of brucite powder in the EVA matrix, thereby improving the mechanical properties and flame retardant properties of EVA composites. These research results provide a solid theoretical basis and technical support for the development of high-performance EVA composites.
