Diatomite modified with brucite powder is a new type of adsorption material. This study explores its adsorption performance for active red dye in water, aiming to provide an efficient and economical solution for wastewater treatment.

Active red dye is a common water-soluble dye widely used in textile, printing and dyeing industries. Due to its high stability in water, traditional wastewater treatment methods are often difficult to effectively remove it. Diatomite modified with brucite powder is a new type of adsorbent with good adsorption performance and environmental friendliness, and can be used to remove dye pollutants in water.

Materials and methods

Experimental materials

Brucite powder: as a modifier.

Diatomite: as an adsorbent substrate.

Active red dye: as a model pollutant.

Experimental steps

Modification of brucite powder: Mix brucite powder and diatomite in a certain proportion, and modify them by heating and other methods.

Adsorption experiment: Add the modified diatomite to an aqueous solution containing active red dye, and conduct adsorption experiments under different conditions.

Performance test: The concentration change of active red dye in the solution is measured by a spectrophotometer to evaluate the adsorption performance.

Performance evaluation

Adsorption kinetics: The experimental data were fitted by the adsorption isotherm models such as Langmuir and Freundlich, and the kinetic characteristics of the adsorption process were analyzed.

Adsorption isotherm: The adsorption amount of active red dye at different concentrations was determined and the adsorption isotherm was drawn.

Influencing factors: The effects of factors such as pH value, contact time, and adsorbent dosage on the adsorption performance were investigated.

Results and discussion

Modification effect: The successful modification of diatomite by brucite powder was verified by characterization methods such as FTIR and XRD.

Adsorption performance: The modified diatomite showed good adsorption performance for active red dye, and the maximum adsorption amount could reach XX mg/g.

Adsorption mechanism: The main forces and mechanisms in the adsorption process were explored by adsorption kinetics and isotherm analysis.

In this study, diatomite modified with brucite powder was successfully prepared and its effective adsorption performance for active red dye in water was confirmed. This new adsorbent not only has a high adsorption capacity, but is also easy to operate and low cost, providing a feasible solution for wastewater treatment.
