One-step preparation of lipophilic nano-magnesium hydroxide

A simple and effective one-step method for preparing lipophilic nano magnesium hydroxide. This method can realize the synthesis and surface modification of magnesium hydroxide in the same reaction system by controlling the reaction conditions, thereby preparing nano magnesium hydroxide with good dispersibility and lipophilicity. 2. Experimental part


Raw materials: magnesium salt (such as magnesium sulfate or magnesium chloride), ammonia water, surfactant (such as stearic acid or sodium stearate).

Preparation steps:

Dissolve the magnesium salt in deionized water, add an appropriate amount of ammonia water, and make the pH value reach an appropriate range (usually 9-11).

Add a surfactant and continue stirring to form a stable emulsion.

The reaction was carried out at a certain temperature for a period of time to precipitate magnesium hydroxide and perform surface modification at the same time.

After the reaction was completed, the mixture was filtered, washed and dried to obtain lipophilic nano magnesium hydroxide.

3. Results and discussion


Morphology and particle size: Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation showed that the prepared lipophilic nano magnesium hydroxide had good dispersibility and a narrow particle size distribution.

Lipophilicity verification: The lipophilicity of magnesium hydroxide was verified by contact angle measurement and other methods, indicating that it had good dispersibility in non-polar media.

Thermal stability: Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that lipophilic nano magnesium hydroxide had high thermal stability and was suitable for use as a flame retardant.

4. The lipophilic nano magnesium hydroxide prepared by a one-step method not only simplified the production process, but also improved the dispersibility and application performance of the product. This method provides a simple and efficient new way for the surface modification of magnesium hydroxide, which is expected to be widely used in the fields of polymer materials such as plastics and rubber.
