Study on the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) filled with brucite powder/red phosphorus. A halogen-free, low-smoke LLDPE flame-retardant material was prepared by using brucite powder as the main flame retardant and red phosphorus as the auxiliary flame retardant. The experimental results show that the composite material has good flame retardant and mechanical properties.


Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is widely used in many fields due to its good flexibility and processing properties. However, LLDPE itself does not have flame retardancy, so flame retardants need to be added to improve its flame retardant properties. Brucite powder and red phosphorus, as a halogen-free, low-smoke flame retardant combination, have been proven to effectively improve the flame retardant properties of LLDPE.


. Experimental part


Materials: brucite powder, red phosphorus, LLDPE.

Preparation method: Brucite powder and red phosphorus were filled into LLDPE by melt blending to prepare a flame-retardant composite material.

Performance test: The flame retardant properties were tested by oxygen index (OI), and the mechanical properties were tested by tensile strength and elongation at break.

Results and discussion


Flame retardant properties: The oxygen index test results show that with the increase of brucite powder and red phosphorus content, the oxygen index of the composite material increases significantly, indicating that its flame retardant properties are significantly improved.

Mechanical properties: The tensile strength and elongation at break tests show that the composite material still maintains good mechanical properties even with the addition of flame retardants.

Synergistic effect: The study shows that the combination of brucite powder and red phosphorus has a good synergistic effect, which can further improve the flame retardant properties of the composite material.

The flame retardant composite material prepared by filling LLDPE with brucite powder/red phosphorus has good flame retardant properties and mechanical properties. This halogen-free, low-smoke flame retardant combination provides a new direction for the development of high-performance flame-retardant LLDPE materials.
