In the field of plastic engineering, polyamide 6 (PA6) is widely used due to its excellent properties. However, the flame retardant performance of PA6 needs to be improved to meet higher safety standards. This study explores a new flame retardant modification method through the synergistic effect of spherical zirconate modified brucite powder and melamine cyanurate (MCA), aiming to significantly improve the flame retardant properties of PA6 while simultaneously Maintain the mechanical properties of the material.

Polyamide 6 (PA6), as an important engineering plastic, is widely used in the automotive, electronics and packaging industries. However, PA6's insufficient flame retardant properties limit its application in a wider range of fields. This study focuses on enhancing the flame retardant properties of PA6 through the synergistic effect of modified brucite powder and MCA.

2. Modification technology

Spherical zirconate modification: stearic acid and calcium stearate are used as composite modifiers, and the coupling agent Zr-801 is used to modify the surface of brucite powder to form a spherical structure.

3. Synergistic flame retardant effect

Application of MCA: Melamine cyanurate (MCA) is used as the main flame retardant and combined with modified brucite powder to form a synergistic flame retardant system.

4. Experimental methods

Composite material preparation: Modified brucite powder and MCA are added to the PA6 matrix in a certain proportion, and the composite material is prepared by melt blending method.

Performance testing: Comprehensive evaluation of the flame retardant performance, mechanical properties and thermal stability of the resulting material.

5. Results and discussion

Improved flame retardant performance: The addition of modified brucite powder significantly increases the oxygen index of PA6, reduces the droplet phenomenon, and enhances the char-forming effect.

Optimization of mechanical properties: When adding 6% mass fraction, the mechanical properties of the composite material reach the optimal balance.

6. Application prospects

Industrial application: Due to its excellent flame retardant and mechanical properties, modified PA6 is expected to be widely used in industries with high safety standards such as electronic appliances and automotive parts.

Through the synergistic effect of spherical zirconate modified brucite powder and MCA, the flame retardant properties of PA6 can be effectively improved while maintaining good mechanical properties. This research result provides new possibilities for high-security applications of PA6.
